John 14:15 KJV
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Deuteronomy 6:5 KJV
And thou shalt love Yahveh thy Elohim with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Mark 12:30 KJV
And thou shalt love Yahveh thy Elohim with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
I believe salvation is a heart issue and believe that I am in no position to make a judgment on what does or does not determine someone's fate.
Philippians 2:12 KJV
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Yahshua ("Jesus") warned Capernaum that their judgment would be more harsh than that of Sodom when they took not heed to His mighty works (Matthew 11:23-24), further supporting that judgment and salvation are more heart than doctinal, though, going back to John 14:15, if you truly love Him, you will keep His commandments. And, knowing what I know, I know I would be at risk of judgment should I turn my back on truth. (Proverbs 28:9) And, likewise, scripture illustrates that we will seek understanding of the commandments if we truly love Him and are worthy of Him
Matthew 10:37-38 KJV
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. [38] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
And it is promised that if we seek, we shall find. (Jeremiah 29:13, Matthew 7:7)
So, in a roundabout conclusion as an answer to your question, I believe you must love Him to be saved and if you love Him, you will seek the true doctrine, His commandments as He intends for them to be kept according to His word, and, since you love Him, He will reveal those truths to you. So yes, doctrine matters.
However, Yah tries the reins of our hearts (Jeremiah 11:20), so if you get knocked out of the race before you hit the finish line, Yah knows how fast and hard you actually ran.
